Moulded Case Circuit Breakers (MCCB's)

Source heavy-duty ABB Moulded Case Circuit Breakers (MCCB's) directly from Hagar’s physical South African warehouse.

Designed to protect commercial power distribution networks, factory machinery, and heavy industrial boards against severe overcurrent and short-circuit faults, our in-stock range complies fully with SANS 60947-2 standards.
From standard sub-panel protection to advanced industrial incoming breakers, we dispatch certified ABB MCCB switchgear directly to contractors and panel builders nationwide.

ABB MCCBs offer robust short-circuit protection capable of handling the operational stresses of the local power grid.
  • ABB Formula Series (A1, A2, A3): Cost-effective circuit breakers up to 630A featuring fixed thermal-magnetic trip units, making them the premier choice for standard commercial distribution boards.
  • ABB Tmax XT Series (XT1 to XT7): High-performance industrial MCCBs covering current ratings from 16A up to 1600A. Available with interchangeable Ekip electronic trip units for precise earth-fault coordination, load monitoring, and cloud connectivity.
  • Specialized Trip Units: Includes specialized trip curves tailored specifically to handle motor starting inrush currents or to match the lower fault levels of standby generator alternators.

Frequently Asked Questions

The ABB Formula series is designed for standard, fixed application parameters up to 630A with pre-set trip units, making it a highly cost-effective choice for basic distribution panels. The Tmax XT series offers advanced, interchangeable electronic trip units, higher breaking capacities, and integrated connectivity options for complex industrial power management up to 1600A.

Yes, the Tmax XT range is highly modular. Accessories such as shunt trips, undervoltage releases, auxiliary contacts, and motorized operators can be installed quickly and safely directly in the field without requiring specialized tools or complex modifications to the breaker core.

Thermal-magnetic trip units are ideal for standard commercial installations where basic overcurrent and short-circuit protection are required. Electronic trip units (like the Ekip range) are recommended for industrial plants because they offer precise adjustment curves, earth-fault protection, energy metering, and communication capabilities.

Icu (Ultimate Short-Circuit Breaking Capacity) is the maximum fault current the breaker can safely interrupt once without sustained damage. Ics (Service Short-Circuit Breaking Capacity) is the fault current the breaker can interrupt repeatedly and still remain fully operational. ABB breakers offer exceptionally high Ics ratings (often 100% of Icu), ensuring maximum operational resilience.
