A Current Transformer (CT) reduces a high alternating current to a lower, proportional value. Measuring CT's are designed to operate accurately within their specified class over a current range of approximately 1% to 120% of the rated primary current.
They are designed to meet standard accuracy limits when connected to the rated burden.
Measuring CT's also saturate outside the normal operating range to protect connected instruments by limiting secondary current during fault conditions.
