Miniature Circuit Breakers (MCB's)

Protect your electrical installations with SANS 10142-1 compliant ABB Miniature Circuit Breakers (MCB's) stocked locally at Hagar Distribution.

Essential for residential DB boards, commercial panels, and industrial control loops, our inventory of ABB DIN-rail switchgear provides dependable branch-circuit protection against overloads and short circuits.
Skip long importer lead times by ordering your 1-pole to 4-pole breakers directly from our Gauteng warehouse.

Built for high breaking capacities and easy panel integration, our ABB MCB lineup includes:
  • ABB S200 & SH200 Series: Commercial and industrial DIN-rail breakers featuring dual-connection terminals for simultaneous busbar and cable insertion.

  • Tripping Curves (C & D): Stocked in standard C-curve for resistive and light inductive lighting/power circuits, alongside D-curve breakers designed to prevent nuisance tripping from high-inrush motor starts and transformers.

  • Residual Current Devices (RCCBs/ELCBs): Fast-acting earth-leakage units that monitor micro-amp imbalances to protect staff and users from electrical shocks.

Frequently Asked Questions

Choose C-curve breakers for standard commercial and residential distribution boards handling typical lighting and power loads. Select D-curve breakers for inductive loads with high inrush currents, such as industrial electric motors, transformers, and heavy machinery, to prevent nuisance tripping during startup. B-curve breakers are reserved for highly sensitive electronics or long cable runs with low fault currents.

An MCB (Miniature Circuit Breaker) protects electrical wiring from overloads and short circuits. An RCCB (Residual Current Circuit Breaker), also known as an Earth Leakage Circuit Breaker (ELCB), monitors current balance to detect tiny leakages to ground, protecting human life against fatal electrical shocks.

The choice depends on the calculated prospective short-circuit current (PSCC) at the installation point. 6kA breakers are typical for standard residential sub-boards situated far from the substation transformer. 10kA breakers are mandatory for commercial properties, industrial sites, and main distribution boards located near high-capacity power supplies.

ABB MCBs use the universal 35mm DIN-rail mounting profile, which is standard across modern South African distribution boards and electrical enclosures. They can easily replace older or failing DIN-rail gear without requiring modifications to the chassis.
